Eye-pleasing Photo

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day78
Another great photo from our trip to Annapolis.
Disregard the trash cans laying on the ground and this is an awesome photo! The brick, the cornstalks and the wrought iron all add up to an eye-pleasing photo as far as I'm concerned. I don't even see those trash cans there, do you?

Huge Posters

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day77-1
I thought it was pretty cool to see these huge posters on the sides of the buildings that surrounded a parking lot in Annapolis. They look to be old photos of what the street used to look like way back in the olden days! Not sure how far back that would be but probably a few decades by the looks of the automobiles in the pictures. Care to guess what year these may be from? I stink at that kind of stuff so I'll leave it all up to you!
ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day77-2

It's a little bit harder to see the posters in this photo but there are 3 of them and look to be from the same era as the previous 2. Pretty cool, I think! Hope you enjoy them!

Altered Tumbled Tiles

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day76
I had some leftover tiles from a while ago and wanted to use them up. Although there were only 3 left, I do plan to pick up 1 more to make this an even set of 4 coasters. Here is what I did with them.

I cut 3 3/4 inch squares of scrapbook paper (this one is from the Wings paper pack by Close To My Heart) and Mod Podged them onto the tiles. These tiles are approximately 4 inches square. I waited for them to dry then applied another coat of Mod Podge on top. Again, waited for that coat to dry then added the butterflies (cut with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge from CTMH) on top with Mod Podge. Another coat of Mod Podge on top of the butterflies. Let that coat dry and applied yet another coat. After it dried really well, I then sprayed 3 coats of an acrylic matte sealer on top, waiting 15 minutes in between each coat. And voila! A beautiful set of coasters!

Know anyone who would like these as a gift? Let me know as they are for sale!

Oops!

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day74
I missed another day of posting. Crap! I have no clue why I forgot to post yesterday. I thought about it a couple times during the day and must have thought I'd already done it but I was wrong. Oh well! To make up for it, here are 2 photos for today!

On our recent visit to Annapolis, MD, which we totally enjoyed in case you didn't know that, we saw so many cool store signs that I had to take photos of them. Some were quite colorful while others were like this one, plain black & white but still pretty cool!
ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day75
I also found it pretty cool that every little alleyway between the stores had a named street sign. This one was called Cabbage Alley. Isn't that cool?

Annapolis is one of the nicest towns I have ever visited. It is such a clean, friendly town with a heavy police presence which made it feel very safe even though I was with my 6'4" hubby and he probably scared everyone away!! Haha! I hope to visit again sometime when it's not raining. I'll bet it'll be a whole lot more fun on a nice day!

Another Photo from Annapolis

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day73

Just sharing another photo from our recent trip to Annapolis. This looks to be some kind of fountain that is all decked out with lights for the holiday season rather than running water. Unfortunately I did not see it when the lights were lit but I'll bet it looked pretty!

I mainly snapped the photo because I loved the yellows and oranges of the leaves in the background not because of the fountain.

Need a Clipboard?

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day71

What a great teacher gift this would make, if I had children still in school! I decorated this plain old 6"x9" clipboard with the Typeset papers from Close To My Heart and they were just perfect for this project. If you'd like it for YOUR child to give to a favorite teacher, it's for sale! Let me know if you're interested!

US Naval Academy

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day70
We didn't visit the US Naval Academy on our recent trip to Annapolis but I wanted a photo of the sign anyway just to say we saw it! Perhaps another day we'll actually visit the academy.

Although my son had never attended the academy, he left the Navy several years ago after more than 6 years of service so the Navy still holds a special place in my heart.

LOVE these chairs!

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day69
These chairs were sitting out in front of one of the shops we passed while strolling the city of Annapolis recently. Their bright color really caught my eye and I just had to take a picture of them. They reminded me of warmer days and got me wishing it were still summertime. Well, I can wish, can't I?

The Maryland Inn

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day68-1
Another one of the old brick buildings we saw in Annapolis, this is the Maryland Inn. As we were walking by, we noticed that a lot of the buildings have outside entrances below ground and you could see right into them. Some had offices but others were eating and/or drinking establishments. They were so cool and totally reminded me of the old TV show, Cheers. Remember how you could see people's legs as they walked by a window while the patrons were inside the bar? Totally reminded me of that and it was so cool! Did I already say that?

If you look closely at the bottom of the second photo, you can see the Starbucks emblem pointing to the coffee shoppe that was below ground.
ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day68-2
Here's one of the side porches on this building, a double-decker! I'd love to have one of these on my home! It was decorated with leaf garlands all over the railings and looked so festive.

You are totally NOT going to believe this but the theme song to Cheers is playing RIGHT NOW on the Smooth Jazz station on satellite radio! How funny is that? Ha ha!

Rooftop Forest?

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day67
A forest of evergreens on the roof of this huge building....how cool is that? This is one of the buildings we saw on our trip to Annapolis. I don't recall whether it is an office building or apartments. Either way, it was cool! I'd love to know what else is up there, wouldn't you?

Fancy Schmancy Target Store

 ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day66-1
Ever see a Target store like this? This was so cool we couldn't believe it was a Target store. I guess it has to do with the area you live in....whether you get a fancy schmancy store like this or not.

This was one of the many interesting sights we enjoyed when we visited Annapolis 2 days ago. There are plenty more interesting sights like these that I can't wait to share with you. I took 180 photos so this could go on for awhile. Ha ha!
ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day66-2
This was my view from the street looking straight up at the Target building. Pretty cool, huh? The round building to the left in the photo is the Coldwater Creek store. We didn't go inside that one but we did go inside the Target and it was phenomenal! It was so big anyone could get lost in it.

I am so excited to share this wonderful city with you and I hope you won't get tired of seeing Annapolis through my brown eyes!

Great Place to Eat.....

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day65
.....and listen to a 'live' Rippingtons show! Hubby and I went down to Annapolis, MD yesterday, ate at the Rams Head Tavern then walked right next door to Rams Head On Stage for an awesome, as always, show by the Rippingtons. They are our most favorite jazz group and they are phenomenal! If you like jazz, you MUST see these guys 'live'! It was my 4th time seeing them and hubby's 3rd although we've been following them for probably 20 years now. Awesome group of musicians!

In spite of the rainy day, we had a wonderful time! We left around 9:00 in the morning, got there before 11:00 and walked all over the town until dinner at 4:30. Wow, I never knew Annapolis was such a charming city. What a quaint, old-style feel it has aside from the military presence there. Brick sidewalks, roads and buildings galore! And the colors were amazing even through the raindrops. I totally loved it! I took a TON of photos and will be sharing more of them with you the next few days. It'll be refreshing to see something different instead of the boring things around my home, right? Ha ha! Stay tuned!

Christmas Tile Coasters

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day64-1
I wonder who the lucky recipient of these cool tile coasters will be? I made these for a Christmas gift for someone...just not sure who yet.

These coasters were very easy to make and you'll never guess where the design comes from. Okay, I'll tell you! The design comes from.....a party napkin. Pretty cool, huh?

I bought a pack of Christmas napkins at Giant the other day and thought they would be perfect for the tile coasters I wanted to make. The tiles are about 4" squares and when I opened up the napkin, it had 4 separate sections that could be cut down to fit each tile. The tiles came from Lowe's or Home Depot awhile ago and I'd been wanting to do something with them. This was a perfect idea!

I used Mod Podge to adhere the napkins to the tiles. I let them dry for a couple hours then applied another coat of Mod Podge on them. I then let them dry overnight then applied another coat of Mod Podge. Again, let them dry overnight then sprayed them with an acrylic sealer 3 times, waiting 15 minutes between coats. I cut squares of thin cork just a bit smaller than 4" and glued them to the bottom of each tile. I then tied them together with a red ribbon and they are ready to be given as a gift. How cool is that?

An Amazing African Violet

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day62
I have had this African Violet plant it seems like forever and it NEVER has had a flower in that shade of pink/purple before. Amazing! The light pink flowers have always had that dark shade in the very center but never has there been one that was completely that shade. It's really very pretty and amazing AND there's more than just one!

A New Read

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day61

Just got this book and haven't had a chance to look it over yet. I had some unused credit on a Barnes & Noble gift card to use before it expired so this is what I chose. Anyone know if it's really helpful while food shopping? I decided to buy it because the Hungry Girl, Lisa Lillien really seems to know the good, the bad and the ugly about food! Besides, I don't have the time to figure that stuff out for myself. Lisa has done it for me! Would love to hear from you if you've read it or have heard good things about it.

Almost Bare

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day59
Getting tired of seeing my birch tree yet? I told you I love this tree! Ha ha! It is almost totally bare of it leaves now though and I am sad about that! It means winter is coming soon. The next time you all see it, it'll probably be snow-covered but looking just as pretty. I hope you are not getting tired of seeing photos of my yard and all it's glory. I don't get out much! Ha ha!

Flying South

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day55
Sure wish I could fly south for the Winter! I don't know about you but I dislike Winter very much, especially the cold. I have never been a cold-weather person EVER in my life even as a child. I remember my mom taking a long time dressing me up in my snowsuit, hats, gloves and boots only to have me come right back in the house 5 minutes later because I was already cold!! Haha! How frustrating that must have been for her! Sorry, Mom! Sure wish I could fly south with these geese, IF that's where they're headed. I know not all geese fly south but they really should because it's a lot warmer there!

Frosty Leaves

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day54
Love this photo of the frost on the Japanese Red Maple leaves. I saw this first thing after getting up this morning, an hour earlier than usual! Well, the same time really but since we HAD to turn the clocks back, I got up an hour earlier, which can actually be a good thing. I now have an extra hour to try to accomplish a bit more today than I did yesterday. Hope you enjoy your extra hour even though it'll be getting dark earlier. Bummer! How many days till Spring?

A Cute Gift Bag

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day53
Here's a cute little gift bag I created today that would be just perfect for a teacher's gift or anyone you know who loves tea! The tag can also be changed if your recipient prefers cocoa or coffee, as I do.

This little stamp set, 'A Sip', is one of my favorite ones from Close To My Heart. I'm thinking of having my upcoming card workshop attendees make this as a bonus project. Think they'd like it? I know I do!

Thanks for stopping by today! Off to fix dinner now! Have a good evening!

Airing My Dirty Laundry!

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day 51
Thought you were gonna get some good gossip or learn something real juicy about me, didn't ya? Ha ha! Sorry about that! I'm just talking about my real dirty laundry..as in dirty clothes.

One of the things I love best is to hang laundry outside to dry. It not only saves on the electric bill (which I totally love to do) but gives the clothes such a nice fragrance. After bringing the clothes back in the house, I feel like I'm still outside breathing in that wonderful clean scent. Every time I walk by the closet or open a dresser drawer, that nice clean scent wakes my senses! I am going to miss hanging clothes out when the weather turns too cold! Bummer!

Hope you enjoy this beautiful day in your favorite way!

Happy Birthday to My Son!

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day50
Wishing my son a very Happy Birthday today! So hard to believe he is already 32 years old!  I can still remember the day he was born like it was yesterday. My body NEVER recovered from it! LOL

This photo is of my son with his wife when we went to Seneca Harbor Park in Watkins Glen, NY back in August. Such a pretty area to visit and I miss visiting it as often as I used to.

Ryan, I wish you the absolute best in life and hope you will always find happiness in whatever you do! Happy Birthday to you!!! Love you forever and always!

'Tis the Season!

ThroughMyBrownEyes365-Day49
Well, ALMOST! It'll be here before ya know it!
Just whipped up this cute little card using the October 2011 Stamp of the Month-Holiday Magic-from Close To My Heart. It's very similar to the one featured on the card that comes with the stamp set. That one is a 5x7 card and I rarely ever make that size so I made this one 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" which is the size I prefer.

Although this stamp set is no longer available for purchase, I may have an extra one I could sell to you if you weren't able to get your hands on one. Just give me a shout!

Hope you enjoy the card!

A Day Late

ThroughMyBrowneyes365-Day48
Okay, so I don't know why this didn't post yesterday as scheduled but now it makes me a day late. Story of my life! LOL...anyway, now I will have to post two photos today.

I just wanted to share this Fall-ish (is that a word?) view I have from my front porch. The cornstalk is wrapped around the post on my porch as I admire the foliage in the background of the field across the road. Pretty view although a lot of the trees were bare even before they had a chance to change color. That's the kind of year it's been weather-wise! Never a dull moment!

Off to find another photo to share for today's date now! Be back in a bit!
