One Little Word

One Little Word is the prompt for the very last day of Picture Winter. I am sad that it's the last day. :-(  I have totally enjoyed each day this month of having to take a photo that applies to whatever word, phrase or picture was featured for the day. I have learned to use my camera in different ways while enjoying what the winter has to offer. I have also met some of the most talented photographers who live in all areas of the country. They have encouraged me, inspired me and made me chuckle. But most of all, they have become my friends. I hope to see them all again somewhere in the future.

A Glimmer of Hope

Can't wait for these Paper Whites to grow and bloom. Hubby plants them every year around this time to give us a little taste of spring which helps us to make it through the rest of the dreary winter. The blooms on these plants are so fragrant that I sure wish they lasted longer.

An Amish Farm

Throughmybrowneyes365-Day 138
Another shot from our trip out to Lancaster County on a beautiful last day of 2011.
If you've ever been out that way, you know you'll be seeing lots of Amish buggies along the way, especially on a Saturday. It's a given!

Details of Winter

Just had to share another shot of a frozen plant from our last snow/ice event. I love getting close ups where you can really see the ice clinging to the dried out leaves left on the otherwise bare stalk. It truly does look beautiful even when frozen.

A Beautiful Mess

Day 26 of Picture Winter prompts us to look for a beautiful mess somewhere in or around our home. It just so happened that I was looking through some new photos of my BEAUTIFUL granddaughters trying to decide which ones to use for a scrapbook page when I realized that this would be the perfect shot for today's Picture Winter photo.

My Magic Machine

Day 25 of Picture Winter tells us to take a photo of a magic machine we have in our lives. Where would we be today without these magic machines that have become our trusty companions? I'm sure you know that I'm talking about our computers, not a pet. I know I rely on mine way more than I should but I can't imagine not having one. How did we ever live without them?

Notice the letter I focused on here on my laptop keyboard. And do you see that yellow tint on the keys?  That is the reflection of the bright yellow wall of my craft room. Love that it got picked up in the photo!

Cold As Ice

I am actually quite happy about the recent snow/ice event we had because it gave me many photo opportunities that our mild winter hadn't given me yet this year. Here's another awesome close up shot of some ornamental grasses we have on our property. Who'd a thunk they could look so beautiful in the winter. I was so amazed at the icy coating on them that I squatted right down real close for this shot even though my hands were freezing. I'm so happy I did! LOVE this photo!

High Strung

Day 23 of Picture Winter is all about being high strung. The only thing around here besides myself that fits that prompt would be these little hot air balloon lights we have strung out on our deck.

We don't just use them during the summer since we cook out year-round and they look pretty cool lit up at any time of year.

It Really IS Winter!

It finally looks and feels like winter here in the Mid-Atlantic! Not that I really want it to but it gives me something new and different to take photos of. After hubby and I returned from our trip to the food store earlier today, I spotted this plant covered in ice sticking out of the snow. I quickly grabbed my camera and got several awesome shots. I played around with this one in a photo-editing program and this is the end result. Pretty cool, isn't it?

Day 20 of Picture Winter is all about being frosty. One visual that comes to mind when I think of the word frosty is a big mug of beer (which I don't drink) or root beer or some such drink but since it's winter and a big mug of frosty ANYTHING would only make me colder than I am already, I chose to associate frosty with snowmen instead.

Since we haven't had any snow to speak of this winter, (maybe overnight tonight though), we have these two cute snowmen--think Frosty the Snowman here--standing guard in a niche in our foyer. I played with some settings in my photo-editing program to make them look a bit more 'frosty'. Did I succeed?

A Shot of Nature

Okay, missed another day of posting here. Oh well! Life gets in the way sometimes or is it just forgetfulness or old age, I wonder?

Took this photo while walking around my yard a few days ago. It's a wilted berry of some sort from one of my plants. I am so bad at remembering the names of plants so help me out here if you know what it is!

I love close up shots of nature, don't you?

Beyond the Chill

Today's prompt for Picture Winter was to find quiet beauty somewhere outside beyond winter's chill. I found this beautiful red plant that still looks like it's thriving even though it's pretty cold outside. I can't remember the name of this plant that a good friend of mine gave me back in the spring but it sure is a pretty, unexpected sight halfway through January.

Controlled Chaos

This is my photo for today's Picture Winter post about controlled chaos. My craft organizer full of small tools, adhesive and embellishments looks chaotic but it really isn't. I know where everything goes even though everything doesn't always get put back where it belongs.

I really love the light and shadows in this photo. I took the shot shortly after I got up this morning when the sun was shining strong and bright and casting shadows on the wall. Cool shot!

Signs of Life

Day 12 of Picture Winter prompts us to look for signs of life during the quiet of winter. This is what I discovered on my walk around the yard this morning....daylillies peeking out of the ground. I think they may have been tricked into thinking that spring is on it's way. I sure wish it wasn't a trick because I'd love for spring to be much closer than it is right now. Even though we are experiencing a warm winter here, I still would rather it be full-fledged spring, wouldn't you?

Finding Balance

Day 10 of Picture Winter is all about finding perfect balance in an imperfect world. What gives you balance in your busy everyday life?

Well, since I am a work-at-home kind of gal, I sometimes find it difficult to separate my work duties from my home duties. I am not a real organized person and some days when I should be working on my scrapbooking and stamping business, I find that I'm doing housework instead. That doesn't help grow my business at all! I really have to work on that!

But what I really like about working at home is that I CAN get a balanced diet as it keeps me away from the fast food joints and coffee shops out there. Not that I was ever a huge fan or regular customer of either of those kinds of establishments but the temptation just isn't there. Therefore, my diet remains a constant balance in my life to help keep me healthy. Now if I could just stick to a really good exercise program, I'd be even more balanced. That I AM working on!

My First Photo Throwdown

I discovered this blog recently and decided to give the challenge a try. It's not that I don't already have enough daily challenges going on right now but thought I'd try to see how it would go for me. I have been taking a class through Big Picture Classes this month and it will end on January 31st so I figured why not try this new one that hopefully will continue on beyond that.
Anyway, today's challenge is all about something NEW. You may be thinking...what is new about this boring light fixture, right? Well, hubby decided he didn't like the ceiling light fixtures in our upstairs hallway so he cut holes for NEW wall sconces instead. This is the anticipation of something NEW to come and I can't wait till the walls are painted and the NEW fixture is installed.

If you'd like to participate in this challenge, too, just click here to check it out. Take a photo of something NEW and post a link so we can all see your photo.

Seeking Texture

Day 8 of Picture Winter is to seek texture somewhere in or around our house. Well, I happened to be wandering around my house yesterday since it was such a gorgeous day, actually I was fitness walking up and down my driveway again, and spotted this lonely pinecone waiting to be photographed. I looked all around it and wow, did I ever see lots of awesome texture. Perfect shot for today’s prompt, don’t you think?

Quiet Beauty

Day 7 of Picture Winter is all about the quiet beauty around us during the winter months as winter is a time of rest, usually! We’ve been having such a mild winter here in my region of the country as many areas have also been experiencing so someone needs to let the flora and fauna know NOT to pop up yet.

I was taking a walk around my yard today looking for something to photograph for today’s Picture Winter prompt and came upon this quiet little beauty. It hasn’t fully opened so it’s hard to tell what it might be but my guess is it’s a weed of some sort. It’s very possible I am wrong. It may be a Johnny Jump Up flower? Maybe? Please help me out if you know what it is.

All this photo needs.....

....is a witch on a broom flying by the moon. Don't you agree? Sure looks eerie to me and reminds me of Halloween. I just took this photo at the end of my fitness walk up and down my driveway. It was such a nice day and a perfect way to end it before dinnertime. I am looking forward to another somewhat warm day tomorrow and plan to fitness walk again. Have a great evening!

Poor Little Birdie

Have no clue what happened to this little feathered friend but when I looked out an upstairs bedroom window a couple days ago, I spotted this bird out on the roof right below the window. I kind of poked at him to see if he was alive but he didn't move. Poor thing! Maybe it was just his time to go. :-(

A Little Sunshine

Day 4 of Picture Winter is all about finding sunshine in some way, shape or form on an otherwise cloudy or gloomy day in order to get through the long cold days of winter. I have no BPCDay4ALittleSunshineproblem with that as my craft room is very bright and cheerful with it’s school bus yellow walls and it is ALWAYS sunny in here!

Whenever I feel depressed or unmotivated I have only to step inside this room and all my troubles disappear if only for a short time.

Oh the Creative Possibilities!

Day 3 of Picture Winter is all about promise and possibility and I can think of nothing else so full of promise and possibility right now than the newest catalog/idea book from Close to my Heart.  It has so many possibilities with all the new beautiful paper packs, stamp sets and embellishments that my creative juices are ready to flow! AND I promise I will share my creations with you!

If you would like a copy of this newest catalog for yourself, give me a shout! I’d love to show YOU the possibilities, too!

Looking Out

Today’s post for Picture Winter is about that shot that offers just the breath of fresh air you need to perk you up, make you feel better or just inspire you.

As most of you know, I truly enjoy the Birch tree that is in my own backyard and it always inspires me to cheer up and enjoy the day without fail! DSC08429

I certainly got a breath of fresh air while taking this photo from an open upstairs window rather than bundling up and stepping outside to take the shot as it’s a chilly, windy day. Not my favorite kind of day!

I have watched this tree grow from a twig into a tall, beautiful tree and I can’t imagine my life without it.

Sunday, January 1, 2012

I decided to start the new year off with going back to school! Well, it’s not your typical school and it’s not really even a school but an online class about photography and surviving the winter doldrums. It’s called Picture Winter and is being offered through Big Picture Classes. Click on the link and check it out. It starts today and maybe you’d like to give it a try, too.

This is the first photo I posted in the Big Picture gallery. Today’s photo is supposed to be about ‘a day of rest’ but what is a day of rest, really? I have too many things I like to do that I rarely ever just put my feet up and do nothing all day. My ‘day of rest’ photo signifies to me that the busy holidays are now over and I can ‘rest’ my mind from all the hustle and bustle the holiday season creates.

Happy New Year!
