Bread Baking was Successful!

This is what the whole wheat bread dough looked like after removing it from the bread machine and before it was baked in the oven.

Here is the baked loaf of bread. Doesn't it look absolutely yummy? Well, it WAS absolutely yummy!
Here's an even closer shot of this yummy bread. Doesn't it make you want to get baking your own loaf? I am looking forward to having a slice of this in the morning with peanut butter on it. My mouth is already watering!

A Recipe to Try

throughmybrowneyes365-day168

I found what looks like a really easy recipe for whole wheat bread online today that I hope to try tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out. If you'd like to try it, too, click here for the recipe. The photo is from the blog where I found the recipe. It is not my own.

Got Milk?

throughmybrowneyes365-day167
This would be perfect filled with Easter candy, don't you think? Hmmm, I have a few granddaughters who would love one of these but 3 of them live too far away and the other 2 are too young to eat candy. So I guess if anyone would like to buy this, it can be sold for the right price! Interested?

This cute little milk carton from Close To My Heart comes in a pack of 2, unassembled and ready to be decorated any way you choose. If you'd like to decorate one for yourself, contact me to purchase a pack.

Darn that Arthur!

throughmybrowneyes365-day166
Well, this is what you have to wear when you find out you have osteoarthritis really bad in your left thumb joint but you're right-handed! What's up with that? I guess I should be thankful it's NOT my right hand. Day to day activities would be even more difficult and painful.

No doubt it's partly due to heredity (thanks Mom & Dad), my 15 years as a grocery store clerk (which I walked away from over 3 years ago), many years of creating awesome cross-stitch projects (several of which still hang on my walls today), basket weaving (yep, did that, too and some are still in use), surfing the 'net (which I do every day), cardmaking (which I do just about every day), and my real true love of scrapbooking.

I guess I've been having way too much fun all these years and now my body is rebelling and letting me know I have to slow it down a bit. I don't think so! I can't give up all these activities that make me who I am and bring me so much pleasure so I will just have to make some minor adjustments and wear this weird looking contraption until the pain subsides. Wish me luck!

A Budding Artist?

One of my precious granddaughters just might become a famous artist someday. Can't you see it? Ha ha! Scarlet got this easel for her second birthday recently and is totally enjoying it!

Go Away Blackbirds!

throughmybrowneyes365-day 164
I had to keep chasing those gosh darn blackbirds away from the suet cake today. They fly in and scare off the woodpeckers. We hang the suet cake mainly for the woodpeckers to enjoy. We don't want those darn blackbirds eating it. Sometimes I wish I had a shotgun! Ha ha!

Too Early for a Garden?

throughmybrowneyes365-day 163
Getting the garden ready for planting. Think it's too early? Ha ha! Hubby doesn't seem to think so. He was out enjoying this warm February weather by prepping the soil in the garden. I guess he just wants to be sure the soil is all ready for when we put in all those veggie plants in the spring. I still think it's too early!

Flower or Weed?

throughmybrowneyes365-day 162

Is this an actual flower--maybe a wild violet--or just a weed? Anyone know 'cause I sure don't! I took a picture of this little thing back in January and I noticed yesterday when I took this photo that it seems to have opened up just ever so slightly but I'm still not sure if it's a flower or a weed. Sure wish I knew!

It's Too Soon!

throughmybrowneyes365-day161
The tulips are popping up already! I don't know if that's a good sign or not. Isn't it too early? I know we've had a very mild Winter and I'm anxious for Spring to get here but I hope these tulips aren't trying to get here too soon because they are absolutely gorgeous and I want to enjoy them as always.

Sharing a Birthday Card

throughmybrowneyes365-day 160
Sharing a card I made today. I was inspired by a sister consultant by the name of Karen Day on this card. She had created one similar and I loved it!

I used Grey Flannel ink to stamp the flower images, which are from the Card Word Puzzle stamp set by Close To My Heart, as well as the butterfly image.

I then masked off the top and bottom sections and sponged the space in between with Grey Wool ink then stamped the section with a word background image from the Universal Backgrounds stamp set, also in Grey Wool.

'Happy Birthday' was stamped in Sorbet ink. I added a strip of Sorbet ribbon then tied a bow to finish it off. Love the result! Hope you love it, too!

Broccoli Lovin' Girl

throughmybrowneyes365-day159
How many 2 year old little girls do you know who love broccoli? I only know of one and she's my granddaughter.

Scarlet absolutely LOVES broccoli and has loved it since way before she was even able to hold it in her own hand to feed it to herself. Broccoli isn't the only odd thing she eats either.

She likes lots of healthy foods which is a blessing really because she doesn't yet have the taste for sweets. Let's hope she continues eating tons of healthy foods and stays away from that nasty sugar!

One of My Cutie Pies

throughmybrowneyes365-day 158
Love this photo of my youngest granddaughter, Aveney. This was actually taken almost 3 months ago but I still love looking at it. She is such a cutie pie!

She's a very curious little girl. She's also very busy and is always looking for trouble! She's not even a year old yet and I can only imagine how she's going to be when she starts walking and really gets into things. How about when she reaches the terrible twos! Whoa! Don't wanna go there yet!

She is a cutie pie though and I sure do love her!

Another Cardinal Shot

throughmybrowneyes365-day157
Nothing special to share today. I really need to get out and DO something so I can have something exciting to post here. Don't you agree?

Anyway, here's another shot of one of the handsome male cardinals that keep hanging around the feeder. They sure are pretty!

Pumpkin Whip Recipe

throughmybrowneyes365-day156

Here's a recipe I found online recently and totally forgot to write down where I got it from. I hate when I do that as I love to be able to give credit where credit is due. Sometimes, I just forget to make a note as to where I found something and for that I apologize. But this sure looks like a great super easy recipe to try so if you try it before I do, let me know what you think!

PUMPKIN WHIP
A fluffy and light change of pace from pie after a big dinner and I can't wait to try this. Looks very quick to whisk together.

One 1 ounce package (Four 1/2 cup-servings)  Jell-O sugar-free instant butterscotch pudding powder
1 1/2 cups 2% milk
1 cup pure pumpkin puree
1 1/2 cups Splenda-sweetened whipped cream OR frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large bowl beat together the pudding mix and milk until thick.  Stir in pumpkin puree, spices, and vanilla.  Fold in whipped topping.  Cover and chill for at least two hours.  Garnish with pecans or toasted coconut.  Makes 6 servings about 1/2 cup each.

Say Hello to a Garden Gnome

Isn't this gnome just too cute? I really like him! This is the only project I've created with him but I know I'll be using him again on more cards and scrapbook pages.

Cool Tags

throughmybrowneyes365-day154
I made these tags with cardstock and the pages from an old book. Pretty cool, huh? I got the idea from someone who posted something similar on that great time-sucker, Pinterest

The tags were cut with 3 different Sizzix dies that I've had it seems like forever. I then used the dies to cut tags from the book pages as well. I sponged ink around the edges of the tags after adhering the 2 pieces of the tags together.

I found several stamp images in my stash that I thought would look nice on the tags and chose a few of my favorite ink colors to stamp them with. And voila.....cool tags to use in my smash books or on cards or scrapbook pages. Pretty cool!

A New Bicycle

DSC09102Hubby is a bike rider and went to the annual Bike Swap that is held in Westminster, MD today. This is one of the many little treasures he came home with.

In case you can’t tell, it’s a picture frame. Isn’t it cool? I printed out a photo of him and a couple friends that was taken when they participated in last year’s Covered Bridges Ride in Bucks County, PA, trimmed it and put it in the frame. He was really happy with it!

In My Creative Place

Hey it's me!....playing in my creative place...aka...my scrap room...a couple evenings ago. Hubby took this shot of me and I was quite surprised when he did as he doesn't very often pick up a camera. He usually lets me do all the picture-taking and hence, I rarely ever get in any photos. It was very nice of him to take this photo of me but next time, I hope he warns me a bit first so I can better prepare for a nicer shot.
throughmybrowneyes365-Day 150
Ignore the messy room! I've been very creative lately so my work space has been such a mess. I guess that's actually a good thing though. It means I'm actually accomplishing something for all that time I spend in there!

Purple Martin Experience

We have decided to become Purple Martin landlords and if you’re not sure there IS such a thing, check out this website. We are getting ready for them to arrive in our area which actually won’t be until mid-March to mid-April most likely or possibly a bit later. Can you tell we are excited since their arrival is still a long time away? Ha ha!

This housing will be attached to a 12 foot pole and be hoisted up in the air in a wide open spot on our property as Martins prefer open spaces at least 30 feet from the nearest tree. They also LOVE to be near humans so don’t put their housing too far away from YOUR house. PurpleMartinHousing1

Purple Martins are the only birds who rely completely on humans for their housing and ultimately for their survival. Very interesting birds they are. We have learned a lot so far about what our role will be as landlords and we hope to be quite successful in helping them to grow and thrive. Wish us luck! I will keep you posted.

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

I found a couple really easy hummus recipes online a few months back and combined the two into my own recipe. I can’t remember where I got the original recipes and I apologize for that as I always do like to give credit where credit is due.

Hubby and I enjoyed this while watching the Super Bowl yesterday. Yea for the Giants! Although I’ve never been a huge Giants fan, New York is my home state so I had to support them! Anyway this is a very yummy recipe so I thought I’d share it with you. DSC09013

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 15-16oz. can garbanzo beans or chickpeas
  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2T extra virgin olive oil
  • dash of salt
  • dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/3-3/4 cup roasted red peppers

Drain beans or chickpeas and rinse. Place garlic in food processor-pulse a few times. Add remaining ingredients, except red peppers, one at a time pulsing a few times between each until thick and chunky. Add cayenne pepper and salt to taste. Add red peppers and pulse until smooth and creamy.  Enjoy!

Birds of a Feather

DSC09010

Looked out my sliding door earlier today to this view of several Mourning Doves hanging out in the birch tree. The clouds behind the tree looked really cool and the lighting created silhouettes of the birds which made the view even more cool so I quickly grabbed my camera before the birds flew away.

More Winter Berries

DSC08477

Love how these berries look just hanging on to the branch of our Bradford Pear tree. It’s almost as if they totally ignored the fact that it’s winter and that they should have dried out and fallen off the tree a long time ago. It’s okay with me though as it gives me something interesting to photograph in winter.

Hanging On

throughmybrowneyes365-day143

This berry along with a few others has been hanging on to the plant stalk since back in the Fall. I couldn't resist getting a close up of it. I love how the light hits the green leaves in the background and really makes the berry pop!

Anyone for Mushrooms?

throughmybrowneyes365-day142

Here's a cute little 3" x 3" card I made using the new Pemberley paper pack from Close To My Heart. I am really loving that paper pack.

I cut the patterned paper 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" and the shape where I stamped the image was cut at 2" with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge also from CTMH. I love that cartridge!
