Awesome Show

The first show of the very first Chester County Jazz Festival was held last night on the campus of West Chester University. I was so excited to be able to see one of my favorite jazz musicians perform.
Although I listen to his music almost daily, I have never seen Peter White perform 'live'! He put on an awesome show just as I knew he would! What a fantastic group of musicians with him who helped make it an even better show! I only wish it had lasted longer! Will definitely plan to see him again whenever I can!

Some Daylilies

My beautiful rust-colored daylilies finally opened a couple days ago. I think perhaps because they are in total sunshine all day long that they are late in blooming?

Or maybe it's because the soil around them needs more nourishment? I'll have to do some research and see what caused them to bloom later than usual this year.

Elephant Ears

Ever see one of these plants? They are Elephant Ears and are truly amazing to see how big they get and how quickly they grow! This photo was taken a few days ago and they are already much, much bigger than this. If I remember, I will take another photo tomorrow so you can see JUST how big.

From the Garden

This is what I picked from the garden today. Nothing like fresh yummy veggies to go with grilled chicken for dinner.

What is this?

Okay, someone tell me what this thing is! I know it's some kind of moth and it's HUGE but I forget what it's called. It surprised me while out picking peas again this morning. I don't know how much more excitement I can take! It seems every day I work in my veggie garden, some kind of critter surprises me! Never a dull moment for sure!

Baby Bunnies

Imagine my surprise yesterday while I was picking peas in my garden, when all of a sudden I heard some rustling of leaves and saw a movement out of the corner of my eye. I stopped, looked and listened and there was a baby bunny hiding under a zucchini plant leaf. I ran to the house to grab my camera so I could get a photo and when I returned there were two of them! TWO baby bunnies in my garden. Well, you know that's really NOT a good thing since those little bunnies need to eat and my garden had a lot of good food for them to eat so.....I had to remove the nest that I discovered under the green bean plants. Aw, I know that sounds mean but I work hard on my garden so I can have some yummy fresh veggies for eating healthy and these bunnies don't belong in my garden. So out they went! I hope they were able to find another home.

Leaving the Nest

I startled this baby Robin when I walked over to his tree to check on him and his brother. He also startled ME because I expected him to still be in the nest, not on the end of a branch ready to fly practically right at me. After he attempted to fly, he fell to the ground and I snapped a couple photos of him then went in the house. Five minutes later, I checked on him and he was gone! I have no clue where he went but I sure hope nothing bad happened to him. So ends this episode of the second brood of Robins born here on our property.

Love the scent of those small but very aromatic lavender flowers! I'm thinking of maybe drying some this year but can't remember when is the best time to do that so I will be 'googling' it tomorrow.

More Baby Robins

Here's the latest photo of the two newest baby robins. Wow! They sure have grown up fast and will probably be leaving the nest any day now. I have been lucky to get these photos as every time I walk anywhere near this nest, mama bird really freaks out. I don't like upsetting her but I really want to see her babies and get photos so she just has to deal!

I was hoping to have more photos of the two baby bluebirds but when I went out to their box yesterday afternoon they had already flown the coop! I had just checked on them two days before and they were sound asleep in their box then we had a full day of rain and I hadn't checked on them that day. They must have flown out that day or early yesterday morning before I checked the box. I am so upset that I didn't get to see them learning to fly! :-( And I wanted to make sure no predators got them as they were learning. Now I'll never know if they made it out alive. I pray they did!

Beautiful White Blossoms

Thought I'd share these beautiful Oak Leaf Hydrangea blossoms with you. A friend gave me 2 clippings from her own plants last spring, we planted them on the north side of our house as they prefer a shady area but they didn't bloom. I am so happy to see they have bloomed this year! They are so pretty and I am really enjoying them!

Up in the Sky

Wouldn't it be nice to jump on a cloud and float around in the sky for awhile? I'd love to be able to look down on all the people and wave! Ha! This cloud looked so fluffy and soft that I almost wished I could do just that!

More Bird Eggs

I totally forgot to post a photo yesterday! Oh well, one more day missed of my yearly challenge! Not the end of the world!

We discovered that one of our bluebird boxes has 7 pretty little brown eggs in it and we believe they belong to a Winter Wren, just like the birds whose picture I took with all their little mouths wide open a few days ago.

I originally thought they were Carolina Wrens but on further inspection, I'm thinking they are Winter Wrens as they are more brown and slightly smaller than a Carolina Wren. I could be wrong though and it wouldn't be the first time! Ha! Anyway, I will be watching these eggs to see what hatches!

More Naked Birds

We have been blessed with 2 robin's nests this spring and while the other babies from the first nest have left the comfort of their home and hopefully survived, here are 2 more that just hatched in the second nest. And again, there is one egg that hasn't hatched yet just like in the other robin's nest AND the bluebird's nest! I don't get it! I'll keep you posted on their progress!

No Longer Naked

Here's the latest photo of the baby bluebirds. They are getting big! They still seem to sleep a lot but they now have feathers and will most likely be trying to fly soon. Notice there's another egg that never hatched. I wonder why? Now I really have to keep my eyes on these little guys so those gosh darn predators such as hawks, starlings (which we DO have around here) and the darn neighbor's cat don't get them when they try to leave the nest. I wish I could be out there 24/7 to protect them because I'm afraid something is going to happen to them but I can't do that! Wish them luck!

Little Open Mouths

Just look at all those little open mouths. Too funny! Hubby lifted the top off one of our birdhouses so we could see what was going on in there and look at what we saw - several baby birds inside with their mouths wide open waiting to be fed! It was so funny to see them all excited and waiting for food. I think they are Carolina Wrens but I'm really not sure. I will need to do closer inspection to find out.

Baby Robins

Aren't these 2 baby robins just too cute? They sure looked mad at the world as they huddled next to each other in the pine tree after leaving the comfort and safety of their nest. I really don't blame them! I went back several hours later to see if they were still there and they had disappeared. I only hope they were safe wherever they were.

A No-rain Rainbow

Ever see a horizontal rainbow in the sky when there has been no rain since the night before? I haven't! I found this quite interesting this morning while sitting on my deck. I may have to 'google' this phenomenon and see what causes it. Anyone know?

Naked as a Bluebird

Baby bluebirds nesting in one of our many bluebird boxes. I'm not sure how many are here but it looks like at least 2, possibly 3. We are keeping our eyes on these little guys because you know there's plenty of larger birds who are wanting to get their beaks on these babies. The worst time for them will be when they are learning to fly as they often fall out of the box while testing out those little wings and that's when the predators will pounce. We are watching!
