Thursday Three 9/4/2014

OH MY GOSH! I haven't posted anything here for almost 2 months! I had so much going on with the garden - i.e. tons of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and other goodies  (plus a new Close to my Heart catalog came out) that I have just been too stinkin' busy to take the time for the Thursday Three weekly post. Now that things have calmed down somewhat, I hope to start posting regularly again. So without further ado.....

Three random facts about me right now....

  1. I really, really, really need a haircut so I am planning to go get it done tomorrow.
  2. I just signed up for another online creative class through Big Picture Classes and can't wait for it to start!
  3. My birthday is in 3 days! Happy Birthday to me!
Have a great day!

Thursday Three 7/10/14

It's Thursday Three time again so here are three random facts about me right now:
  1. Still love playing around with my older Sony Cyber-shot. After 6 years, it still takes awesome shots!
  2. Wearing an even older t-shirt that I discovered in the bottom of a drawer this morning and can't remember why I ever stopped wearing it. I LOVE the color!
  3. Today is my husband's and my 38th anniversary! I can't believe 38 years have gone by already! I hope we have 38 more years together! Although that may not happen, it's sure a nice thought! The best part about today is I won't have to cook tonight since we're going out to dinner to celebrate! Yea!
Have a great day!

Thursday Three 7/3/14

Did you miss me? It seems I forgot to post Thursday Three last week. Well, that's really no surprise at all to me as I seem to be getting quite lax anymore with all the features I like to post here. I have to apologize...so sorry!

On to 3 random facts about me.....

  1. I'm having a bad hair day. I put a headband in it and haven't done anything else with it!
  2. I'm wearing a very old t-shirt I bought many, many years ago at Glenora Wine Cellars in Dundee, NY - one of my most favorite wineries in the Finger Lakes Region. I will most likely keep it till it falls apart, I love it that much!
  3. I am so excited about the new Close To My Heart Annual Inspirations catalog! It is absolutely the BEST.ONE.EVER!
Have a great day!

  3. I am looking forward to tomorrow night. It's FPF (Fire Pit Friday)! Yea!
Have a great weekend!

Thursday Three 6/12/14

Hello all! It's selfie time and time to share 3 random facts about me today!
  1. It has rained for the past 4 days I think and it's sure not helping with my depression. ;(  Enough already!
  2. Been enjoying the Instagram class on Creative Live the past couple days. So much information for promoting a business.
  3. I am sad that we haven't been able to start a Purple Martin colony yet this year and the window for that happening is closing.
Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great one!

Thursday Three 6/5/14

Here's this week's Thursday Three!
  1. Here I am looking out an upstairs window, hoping & waiting for the Purple Martins to return.
  2. I have been very productive in my scrap room today. I created 3 scrapbook layouts for a class on Big Picture Classes and I love them all!
  3. I have been enjoying a delicious Moscato by Fish Eye lately since the wine store around the corner no longer carries my favorite Bully Hill wines in boxes. ;(
That's it! Hope you have a great day!

4 on the 4th for June

It's time once again to share 4 photos that I took on the 4th of the month. I'm sure you're noticing lots of birds, huh? Well, these birds may not be too exciting to you but they are to me. They're Purple Martins!

If you know anything about me at all, you know that I am a bird lover and that Ron & I have been trying to attract Purple Martins for the past 3 years. This may be the year we get them - may being the operative word here since they have teased us the past 2 years by visiting several times but never staying.  ;(

We are very optimistic this year because they have really been hanging around the past couple days and checking things out closely while testing to see how easily they can zoom inside of whatever cavity they choose to nest in. I hope they are happy with their tests.

So, anyway here are 3 photos of the Purple Martins from yesterday and one photo of the horse farm across the road. I love how the morning sun shines on that barn! I admire it every sunny morning when I step out on my deck with my first cup of coffee of the day. Love the view!

Ok, that's it for now. I hope I haven't bored you with the bird photos and facts.

Have a great day!

Thursday Three 5/29/2014

Hello everyone! Almost forgot it was time for another 'selfie' and some random facts about me. I have been busy in my craft room today learning about letterpress. I recently bought a new We R Memory Keepers Evolution Advanced machine from HSN and it came with a Letterpress kit. I have no clue how it works though. What a great deal it was though! But that is a story for another day so on to my 'selfie' and facts.

  1. I love sitting on this bench under our birch tree especially while enjoying a glass of wine!
  2. Since today was another crappy rainy day, this photo was actually taken a couple days ago by my husband so technically it's not a 'selfie' but I won't tell anyone if you won't!
  3. I am getting excited for my scrapping friends to come play with me on Saturday.
Have a great weekend!

  1. I pretty much just wear t-shirts and capris this time of year.
  2. I am loving this hanging flower basket that we got at the Green Dragon farmer's market in Ephrata a couple weeks ago for just $14.50! What a steal! I am so happy it hasn't died yet.
  3. I am wishing the weather would get back to normal again. So tired of cool, rainy and/or windy days!
Have a good day!

Sad News in our Backyard Bird World

I know you all aren't bird lovers like myself but I had to share this with those of you out there who take any interest in or care about nature. We were so upset to see this mess the other day. Is this the work of an English House Sparrow? I believe so!

We think a pair of Tree Swallows that successfully fledged 4 young last year came back again this year because they were early and went straight to the same box. We were so excited to see them because we figured the Purple Martins weren't too far behind. Well, when we saw this, we were heartbroken.

We have been very vigilant in watching for these buggers but we had very heavy rain last Thursday & Friday so I wasn't at the window or outside every 5 minutes because I figured nothing would be going on - boy, was I wrong!

This Tree Swallow pair had 5 eggs - 3 of which we found on the ground under the box where they were nesting and 2 that had hatched. I found one of the babies just barely alive in our veggie garden while the other was found several feet away already dead. This is truly heartbreaking so we need to be even more vigilant now.

In case you aren't aware, the English House Sparrow as well as the European Starling are non-native to the United States and CAN and MUST be eliminated in order to save many of our lovely native birds such as the Tree Swallows, Purple Martins and Bluebirds. Some of you may think these birds are pretty - I don't! they are the ugliest birds on the face of this earth in my opinion - but they can do major damage to the population of our native birds.

Please consider trapping and/or shooting these birds if you encounter them in your yard. Put screens over your chimneys to keep the Starlings out - that is one of their favorite places to nest. Learn what a House Sparrow's nest looks like and remove it whenever you find one. Please do your part to help our Bluebirds, Purple Martins and Tree Swallows as well as other native birds to survive and thrive here in the US.

Ok, getting off my soapbox now. Thanks for listening! Have a great day!

Thursday Three 5/8/14

I need to stop getting involved in so many projects. I keep forgetting what I am supposed to post and when! Agh! Here's my Thursday Three photo and random facts about me for today!

  1. I did a lot of bird-watching today. Didn't accomplish much of anything else but I enjoyed the birds. I thought I saw some Purple Martins but alas, they were just Tree Swallows again!
  2. I participated in Ali Edwards' Day in the Life challenge today so I was taking tons of photos all day long. Now I have to edit them all and decide which ones to use.
  3. I thoroughly enjoyed this absolutely gorgeous day. I think we hit 75 degrees and it felt really nice!
Have a good night!

May 4 on the 4th

Hello! It's time to share 4 photos I took yesterday on the 4th of May.

Clockwise from top left:

  1. My husband has been on a brownie kick lately so I find myself baking them at least once a week now. Soon he'll move onto something else and I can't wait to see what that might be.
  2. Cheating on the cole slaw! I'm not in the mood to spend a lot of time in the kitchen these days so I cut time down any way I can. There's no quicker way to make a delicious cole slaw.
  3. My dad passed away back in December as some of you may remember and on my last trip up north to visit my mom she gave me these framed pictures to bring back with me. The 2 cross-stitch items were ones I had made many years ago as gifts for my dad and the picture frame holds a photo of my children when they were young, which they had given to him also as a gift. All three of them went through a flood many years ago and although they had a lot of water damage, my dad cleaned them up as best he could because he loved them. They hung on his basement wall until my mom told me to take them home with me a couple weeks ago. I will clean them up, maybe re-frame them and find a wall to hang them on here in my home as a tribute to my dad who I miss very much!
  4. I love this sign Ron & I found on our trip to the Green Dragon farmer's market in Ephrata. It says it all!
Have a great day!

  2. I got my teeth cleaned this week and it always feels so good!
  3. I am totally enjoying this warm day after the torrential rains we had for 2 days. Whoa! That was unreal and I'm glad it's over!
Have a great day!

Thursday Three 4/24/14

So I have skipped the past couple weeks of my Thursday Three posts and I must apologize. Last Thursday I had just returned from a trip up north to visit family and hadn't been totally unpacked and in the right frame of mind to post and the previous Thursday, was my first full day visiting my family so I was too busy to post. But I am here now, finally able to post again!

Three random facts about me right now:
  1. I LOVE, love, love to hang clothes outside on a breezy, sunny day!
  2. I already took like a hundred photos today and it's not even noon yet!
  3. I was excited to see the bluebirds return this morning. They built a nest then left for about a week. Hopefully they're back to stay!
Happy Thursday!

April - 4 on the 4th

It's time for 4 on the 4th again so here are the four photos I took yesterday, clockwise from the top left:
  1. This is only the second time a House Finch has visited our finch feeder since we hung it a few days ago. We've been wondering where they've been hiding. Good to see them back! But best of all, earlier today we finally saw two Goldfinches at the feeder and that's even more wonderful!
  2. Ron is making some adjustments to the Purple Martin house to get it ready to hoist up the pole. Almost there!
  3. This poor Robin slammed into our dining room sliding glass door yesterday and hit it so hard that he/she pretty much got the breath knocked right out of it. It was stunned and just stayed in that same position for about an hour then flew away like nothing ever happened!
  4. Here's a pic of me reading one of my favorite childhood books - Just Mrs. Goose. I think I read every single one of the books in this series probably a hundred times while I was growing up. I loved those books! I recently purchased a reprint of this book so that I could read it to my grandchildren during one of our Skype visits but decided to read it just one more time before then.
Hope you've enjoyed my photos today. Have a great day!

Thursday Three 4/3/14

Wow, a whole week went by again already? Amazing how time flies when you're having fun and I AM having fun! It's finally springtime with warmer days and the sun is shining today in between the clouds! So this will be a quick post so I can get back outside and enjoy the day before the rain arrives.

Here's three random facts about me today:

  1. I love sitting out on my deck watching all the bird activity.
  2. I can now sustain 5 miles on the treadmill with no problems! Yay!
  3. I am totally in love with the new Picture My Life kits from Close to my Heart.
Happy Thursday!

Thursday Three 3/27/14

Here I am again in my scrap room! No surprise, right? Excuse the hair today - it's still up from my stint on the treadmill and I need to get it washed. Anyway, here's 3 random facts about me today....
  1. Been thinking of my dad all week as Monday would have been his 83rd birthday. He is missed so very much and it's still hard to believe he's no longer with us. ;(
  2. I am seriously thinking about leaving Close to my Heart as a consultant after 7 1/2 years. Mixed emotions about that but it may be necessary.
  3. I need to get off this computer so I can get some paper packs mailed out. I am PURGING my scrapbook stash as most of you know and I am happy to report that I have sold 3 paper packs + stickers this week. Yay!
Hope you all have a great day!

Thursday Three 3/20/2014

Good Thursday morning to you! Here's three random facts about me right now!
  1. I am sitting at my dining room table with coffee in hand looking through veggie seed packs and deciding which ones need to be started now.
  2. I keep looking out the windows about every 5 minutes checking to see if the bluebirds have actually started building their nests yet and watching for any of those pesky starlings and sparrows so I can chase them away!
  3. I have five projects in progress and can't decide which one I should work on today. No surprise there!
Happy Thursday!

My Vision Board for One Little Word

This month's assignment for One Little Word is to create a vision board. I have never in my life ever made one of these before and wasn't too keen on the idea to begin with but figured I'd give it a try anyway so I could use the 12" x 12" canvas that I'd had it seems like forever. So here is what I created....

I cut images and words out of one magazine, amazingly the first one on the pile of several, and found exactly what I wanted - wonderful images and words that fit on my canvas perfectly. Although my 'one little word' is purge, it is not on this canvas but that's okay. All the other images and words are indirectly linked to my 'one little word' and what I want to accomplish this year with my word.

After deciding how to arrange the pieces on my canvas, I glued the background words down first then when it was dry, I swiped a couple different color ink pads across it before adhering the other images and word strips down. I then added a few gems and wooden embellishments, a photo of myself, stamped the words 'vision board 2014' and called it done! I love how it turned out!
I decided to take a photo of myself holding my new awesome piece of art, printed it out at 8"x 10" then made a scrapbook page to put in my OLW album. As I said, this was something I had never made before but I totally enjoyed the process as well as the final result.

Happy scrampin'!

Thursday Three

Hello, hello! Back again for another Thursday Three post! Here I am sitting at my kitchen counter, enjoying my first cup of coffee of the morning, looking through emails and deleting most of them. It's a never-ending daily task that must be done. But actually you're probably looking right past me at those Beanie Babies on the shelf, right? Ha! Caught you!

For some reason, a couple months ago, my husband decided he wanted to put those Beanie Babies on display after finding them in one of at least a hundred bags and boxes left behind by our daughter when she moved out. Maybe he wanted them to be a reminder to her whenever she visited that she still had a plethora of stuff here that needed to be removed from the premises, please!? Can't say for sure because he does some weird things all the time - it's just his nature! ;)

Just realized it's 9:00AM already and I haven't even had breakfast yet although I've been awake for 2 hours! So on to three things about me.....

  • I've chased the blackbirds away from our feeders several times already this morning. I know they have to eat, too, but they take from the smaller birds and I don't like that!
  • I love baked oatmeal! I made a big dish of it a few days ago (it freezes very well) and now I'm reheating some for my breakfast.
  • I had my annual Pap test yesterday. Is yours due yet?
Thanks for stopping by today! Make it a good one!

Trying Something New

Over here there's a gal named Kristin who is always coming up with cool ideas for taking photos and documenting your daily life. Every Thursday she features what she calls 'Thursday Three' where you take a photo of yourself, yes a selfie, then post it on your blog along with 3 things about you right now.

So here is my first post for this project. And yes, I am posting a selfie. There's a first time for everything! Please don't be frightened. It really is me with all those wrinkles. What can I say? I'm getting older. Anyway, here's three things about me today.

  • I am sitting in my scrap room, looking at photos of my grandchildren on my laptop instead of creating artwork.
  • I just got out of the shower. I like to be clean when I go to bed.
  • I am tired of the snow being on the ground. It's time for spring!
Thanks for looking! Have a good night!

4 on the 4th - February

It's that time again where I share 4 photos with you that I took on the 4th of this wonderful month of February! Yes, February is wonderful because it means January is over and we are now one month closer to Spring! Yea!

Going clockwise from top left:
  1. Yep, we got more snow. Gee, what a surprise, right? And we are expecting more tomorrow along with some possible sleet & freezing rain before changing over to all rain. Should make for a fun and interesting day. Anyway, I noticed after I took this picture of one of our snow-covered pine trees that there was a group of Juncos hanging out in there. If you look closely just to the left of the middle of the picture, you'll see them.
  2. As I was PURGING the drawers in our antique dry sink today, I discovered these place cards that Keri had made many years ago. They sure brought back some great memories and made me chuckle.
  3. A photo of said antique dry sink that we got from Ron's mom many years ago. Still looks just as good as the day we brought it home.
  4. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this group of kid's silverware under a bag full of plastic ware. I had totally forgotten we had them. The Trix spoon was one of Keri's favorites, perhaps because it has her name on it.
That's it for this month's 4 on the 4th! Thanks for stopping by! See you next month!

More 'One Little Word' pages

Hi there! I have another page to share about the 'stuff' I am trying to PURGE from my life. This time it's tons of music CD's, many we haven't listened to in quite some time. Think it's time to PURGE them? I think so!

I created a list for my page - Life without music would be________
  • quiet
  • boring
  • depressing
  • sad
  • empty
  • lifeless
  • all of the above
and I added a quote from Hans Christian Andersen on the bottom
"Where words fail, music speaks" that I absolutely love!

I am so excited that I found the perfect symbol for my 'one little word' today while searching on Google! There were so many it was hard to choose the one I liked best but I decided to go with the recycle symbol since it represents CLEANSING, getting RID of impurities and starting FRESH. That's exactly what I want to accomplish with my 'one little word' this year. I added the word PURGE inside the recycle circle before printing it and love how it looks.

I also found a necklace on Etsy at PureImpressions in the shape of the recycle symbol and I can't wait to get it! It's absolutely gorgeous, don't you think? I'll share the real deal when it arrives! ;)

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great week!

One Little Word 2014 - Post 1

Here's the opening page for my One Little Word album that I am putting together. I had already had this page ready to go but was waiting for my album and page protectors to arrive from scrapbook.com before sharing anything with you. I am happy so far with how it's coming together.

Let me just tell you something about myself - I am not always a serious scrapbooker, meaning that I like to be silly sometimes especially when it comes to pages about myself. Plus I take photos of ANYTHING and believe me, I mean ANYTHING as you will see if you follow me for the next year.

One of the reasons I do is because it's just my husband and I now around here - kids have grown and left us, no pets anymore, no grandkids within 100 miles of us (which sometimes can actually be a good thing!) - just the two of us and we don't lead a real exciting life but we like it that way! So some of my scrapbook pages will be silly stuff and may even be a bit repetitive so if I bore you, I truly am sorry.

Here's my quote page and my explanation for why I chose the word - PURGE. I'll share the quote with you but not why I chose it just because my hand is already hurting from typing. :( The right page is my response to four different questions posed by Ali Edwards specifically for this workshop.

"Sometimes you've got to let everything go - PURGE yourself. If you are unhappy with anything....whatever is bringing you down, get RID of it! Because you'll find that when you're FREE, your true creativity, your true SELF comes out!
~Tina Turner

The left page here shows my intentions of how I will explore different ways or actions to invite my word into my life. The right page is a copy of my very first blog post about One Little Word that I shared with you yesterday.

Here's a page about one of the first things I PURGED since beginning this endeavor - my sneakers! See, didn't I tell you I'm silly sometimes? How many people do you know who create scrapbook pages about sneakers? :)

Thank you for stopping by today. Make it a good one!

Let the 'One Little Word' fun begin

My supplies have arrived for my 'One Little Word' endeavor. Yea! But I am asking myself if my word is PURGE, how is buying more stuff helping me to PURGE material things from my life? Seems kind of counter-productive, doesn't it?

Well, in the words of Ali Edwards herself, PURGE means keeping what is important and letting go of the rest so I have decided that for every one new thing I get, I will RID myself of one thing I no longer use/want/need. And that idea is thanks to someone in the One Little Word 2014 Facebook group. Thank you, Debra Carr!

So let's see what four old things I can PURGE from my stash now that I received four new things today. Or can I just say the three packs of page protectors are one item so then I only have to PURGE two things? Hmmm, this could be tougher than I think! Wish me luck!

4 on the 4th - January

1. A scrapbook layout created for a Big Picture Classes class that I am taking this year - Inspired Scrapbooking - hosted by the awesomely talented Stacy Julian. I'm not totally thrilled with the layout - my creative mojo is lacking these past couple weeks after the passing of my dad the day after Christmas and understandably so - but it'll do and I'll move on to the next one. Stay tuned each month for more inspired scrapbooking creations!

2. What a gorgeous sunny sky but very cold, snowy, bitter morning as we headed out to Lancaster County for breakfast and food shopping. Many winter Saturday mornings are spent this way and we truly enjoy them!

3. I finished my December Daily 2013 album by removing it from the display stand it was attached to and tying some ribbon through the holes. That way I can reuse the stand for another project. Love that idea!

4. The cover page of my 2014 Project Life album has taken shape. The very end of 2013 was so difficult and it is really making it hard to move into 2014 in a positive way but I am trying. Not only am I taking a class from BPC this year, I am also participating in Ali Edwards' 'One Little Word' workshop this year as well. Hopefully, between the two of these endeavors, I will remain optimistic about a brand new year. Wish me luck!

On a different subject....I am excited about the new 'Picture My Life' products that will be available soon from Close To My Heart. They are along the lines of the Becky Higgins version of Project Life and I can't wait to get some into my hot little hands! I love the quality and variety of products from CTMH so these should be just as awesome. I hope to share some of these new products with you very soon so be sure to check back in a few days.

Thanks for stopping by today! Make it a good one and stay warm, wherever you may be!

My One Little Word for 2014

I have decided to participate in this year's 'One Little Word' hosted by Ali Edwards. I have been wanting to undertake this project for a couple of years now and just decided yesterday to jump right in. I recently released or purged myself from a couple obligations so I am going to make time for this project and do the best I can to follow through the entire year. I know life will get in the way at times, as it should, but I will give it my all and see how it goes. If you would like to join in, it's not too late since today is the beginning of a new year and another year of 'One Little Word'.

I have chosen the word purge for several different reasons and although it can be a violent word, I will not use it in that sense. After you read the definition of purge below, I think you'll see just how it can take on many meanings that pertain to everyday life and are non-violent. After a lot of thought, this is the word I have chosen and I believe it will fit me well this year.

Here is the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of purge:

1purge

 verb \ˈpərj\
: to remove people from an area, country, organization, etc., often in a violent and sudden way
: to cause something to leave the body
purgedpurg·ing

Full Definition of PURGE

transitive verb
1
